Project Summary

  • Why did they want the remodel – Our client’s kitchen, built in 1910, felt cramped, outdated, and lacked functional workspace. She wanted a kitchen that was fresh, functional, and inviting—a space where she could cook, gather, and enjoy daily life with ease. The goal wasn’t just updating finishes; it was about reimagining the heart of the home while preserving its historic charm. By reconfiguring the layout, we aimed to maximize usability, improve flow, and create a kitchen that could accommodate both everyday routines and entertaining.
  • Design Challenges/Our solutions – One of the biggest design challenges was balancing openness with practicality within the existing footprint. Since an addition wasn’t an option, the space required creative planning. We carefully shortened and adjusted cabinetry sizes, optimized storage, and rethought work zones to make the kitchen feel larger and more functional. Every element, from countertop space to appliance placement, was thoughtfully considered to ensure efficiency, comfort, and an inviting aesthetic.
  • Construction Challenges/Our Solutions – Working in a home built in 1910 came with structural surprises, including uneven walls and aging framing that could have complicated installation. To address this, we selectively reframed certain areas, creating clean, stable surfaces for cabinetry, countertops, and finishes. This careful attention allowed modern design elements to fit seamlessly while honoring the home’s original character.
  • What makes the project unique? – What makes this remodel unique is the transformation of a century-old kitchen without adding square footage. By reimagining and optimizing the existing space, we created a functional, stylish, and modern centerpiece for the home. Highlights include smart storage solutions, improved workflow, and a design that perfectly balances historic charm with today’s lifestyle needs. The result is a kitchen that feels open, welcoming, and entirely reimagined for modern living.
