Project Summary

  • Why did they want the remodel – We had been in conversations with these homeowners for several years before the timing finally felt right to move forward. Their home sits on the Boise Bench, with some of the most impressive views in the city—overlooking downtown and stretching up toward the foothills. The clients wanted to take full advantage of that setting by opening up the back of the house and creating a contemporary living space that framed those views rather than blocking them. They had a clear, modern aesthetic in mind from the start, and their vision centered around transforming the home into something streamlined, open, and architecturally bold.
  • Design Challenges/Our solutions – The biggest design challenge came from the way the home was originally framed. Several load-bearing points ran continuously from the roofline down to the basement, making some of the desired wall removals much more complex than they appeared at first glance. To work around this, we developed a floor plan that preserved key structural walls while still achieving the open, modern flow the clients wanted. Strategic layout adjustments paired with thoughtful structural coordination allowed us to maintain the design intent without major reconstruction of the home’s core framing.
  • Construction Challenges/Our Solutions – From a construction standpoint, this project had a few detail-intensive challenges, starting with the heated floor system. The clients wanted a large portion of the home outfitted with electric radiant heating, which required a high level of planning to ensure proper coverage, safety, and performance. To get it right, we brought in our Schluter representative and worked together to create a precise wiring blueprint before installation. That preparation made the actual install smooth and ensured the system functioned efficiently. Another technical challenge involved the cabinetry. The homeowners selected Mirlux, a sleek, high-gloss veneer that must be oriented in a consistent direction throughout the space to maintain its modern, continuous grain flow. Achieving this required careful coordination between our design team and the cabinet builder, along with meticulous installation to ensure every panel aligned perfectly. Through thorough planning and a great partnership with our cabinetry team, the finished result came together exactly as envisioned.
  • What makes the project unique? – This project is stunning from every angle, and the finished home showcases the clients’ modern vision in a truly elevated way. It features Mirlux cabinetry throughout, crisp waterfall countertops, and expansive windows that frame panoramic views of the Boise valley. One of the standout features is the master bathroom, where a striking blue agate slab is backlit behind the bathtub, creating a dramatic and luxurious focal point. The transformation was significant enough that we entered this project into the National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s annual awards—and it won first place in the nation. It’s a remodel that pairs bold modern design with thoughtful craftsmanship, resulting in a home that feels both sophisticated and unforgettable
