Project Summary

  • Why did they want the remodel – The homeowners live right on the Boise River, and the beauty of their home is tied directly to that view. The existing layout, however, didn’t take full advantage of it. The client—who is a designer by trade—came to us with a clear vision: create a modern, open living space that fully embraces the river backdrop. Her plan was to remove a large section of the exterior wall and replace it with a wide Panasonic sliding door system that would open the interior seamlessly onto a new covered patio complete with a hot tub. The goal wasn’t just to update the home, but to create a living experience that extended outdoors and celebrated the incredible setting they have.
  • Design Challenges/Our solutions – Because the client arrived with detailed plans and a well-established design direction, the design phase was streamlined. She provided the selections, finishes, and layout preferences upfront, so our focus became executing her vision with precision rather than developing it from scratch. This allowed us to shift more of our energy into technical coordination—making sure the structural elements, materials, and construction details aligned with the modern aesthetic she had in mind.
  • Construction Challenges/Our solutionsThis remodel presented several unique challenges, starting with site access. The home backs up to the Boise River along the Greenbelt, limiting where we could bring in equipment. We secured access through the Greenbelt, mobilizing excavation and structural machinery without disrupting the environment. Timing was another challenge. The project began as COVID hit, and product shortages were becoming a concern. By proactively contacting suppliers and ordering long-lead items early, we stayed ahead of delays and kept the build on track. The most technically demanding aspect was the interior-to-exterior transition. The homeowner wanted a completely flat, continuous look with tongue-and-groove ceilings flowing from the living room to the covered patio, while concealing the recessed track for the Panasonic door and a drop-down blind chase. Precise framing, careful elevation planning, and close coordination across carpentry, electrical, and finish teams delivered a clean, uninterrupted aesthetic that perfectly matched the design vision.
  • What makes the project unique? – This home is remarkable for its location alone—just steps from the Boise River, with a backyard that feels like an extension of the natural landscape. The remodel enhances that connection in a dramatic way. The expansive panoramic door transforms the entire living room, opening it to a stunning riverside patio where you can enjoy the sound of the water, the breeze, and the views year-round. The modern detailing—hidden door tracks, seamless tongue-and-groove ceilings, and integrated electric blinds—creates a space that feels both architectural and effortless. It’s a project that stands out not only for its craftsmanship but for how beautifully it frames one of the most iconic settings in Boise.
